Item Description

An incredibly hard to find specimen of Vivianite from the famous Ilha Claim (Lavra da Ilha) in Brazil. This is the first specimen of this material that we've had to offer in the auctions, and it dates back to 1973 where it was personally acquired by Richard "Rich" Kosnar (1946-2007) at this famous pegmatite located on a small island in the Jequitinhonha River. Rich was actually the first US dealer to import minerals from this locality. The piece remained in Kosnar's personal collection until his death, and is now available for any of you phosphate enthusiasts or Brazilian mineral fans. This small cabinet specimen hosts a rich blue-green colored, glassy, sharp, well-formed translucent crystal group of Vivianite measuring 1.3 cm, associated with blocky golden-brown Siderite on white Albite matrix. Most of the other Vivianites are not fully crystallized, but the main group is good quality. A cool piece that dates back 50 years ago, and certainly almost impossible to find on the market today, so don't miss out.
