Item Description

Intergrown radial sprays of lustrous, very dark green to black vivianite blades comprise this striking, nifty and uncommon two-sided US vivianite specimen. Complete all-around and pristine, these are thought to be pseudomorphs after whale (or other) vertebrae! MINDAT reports that the specimens found were world famous, and they were written nearly 50 years ago in Rocks and Minerals. Seldom available old material. Ex Dennis Mullane Collection. I have not had a good one of these in a decade and more. It is a special, unique USA item. For humid climates, you would want to seal or coat these to prevent decay. In other climates, they seem stable (as this one is 50 years old and more). This is one of the finest I have seen for sale, and very complete and aesthetic. Valued $900-1200.
