Item Description

The interior of this rare, excellent and large fossilized mollusc shell is covered with a crust of vivianite. Several striking sprays of lustrous, variably-sized vivianite blades, to 2.1 cm, are scattered in the interior. Some the blades have gemmy sections and colors range from black to olive-green. The matrix is a dense shell hash. This phosphate pod deposit on the Kerch Peninsula is now mined through and gone. It is extremely rare to obtain specimens today of this top quality.
