Item Description
This mine has produced what are clearly some of the finest quality Vivianite specimens ever seen. This cabinet size piece features a large, excellent, very sharp, rather lustrous, gemmy, deep emerald green, sword shaped "textbook" crystal of Vivianite with associated metamorphosed (silicified) Sandstone. I can't find any damage of note, and the small imperfection at the point of the termination is not damage, but a small spot of interrupted growth where either another Vivianite or matrix interfered with the growth. Keep in mind that over 75% of the specimens from this find have had SERIOUS damage problems, so this one is a BIG deal for its superb condition. I have never seen specimens of this quality, color, luster and gemminess before, not only from Bolivia, but virtually any world locality. I value this one at $3,500 for the size, quality, gemminess and overall condition. Ex Dave Bergman Collection. Dave is a Colorado miner (formerly the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s) and the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
