Item Description

This cute locality specimen features lustrous, dark, sea-green Vivianite crystals to 1.5 cm set in a fossilized mollusc shell from the Kerch Peninsula of the Ukraine, near the Black Sea. Both sides of the clam have been partially replaced with Vivianite, with the actual crystals emanating from one half. The Vivianite portion of the deposit is now mined out. The calcium and phosphate needed to form this species are both derived from the original shell material. These are classics.
