Item Description

These Vivianites date back to a discovery In the early 1980's. This find produced some of the largest and most spectacular Vivianite specimens in Bolivian history. A friend who was present when they were discovered told me the story of this momentous find. He said that there were plates of crystals just pouring out of the mine for a very brief period of time that were filled with some of the largest and most impressive quality Vivianites he had ever seen. Unfortunately these specimens were too distracting to the miners, who were neglecting their regular duties and only collecting Vivianite specimens so the mine manager decided to blow up the entire section of the mine where the Vivianite was being collected. This obviously greatly reduced the number of specimens that would have made their way to the market. This piece is one of the last specimens to come out the Morococala during the "Vivianite Boom". It features a cluster of rather lustrous, sharp, prismatic, gemmy, deep emerald green color crystals of Vivianite associated with minor iridescent Pyrite on matrix. It should be noted that this is indeed Pyrite and not Chalcopyrite, and this particular style is a characteristic of this discovery. No real damage to speak of, only a few minor "rubs" and it's obviously not complete on the base / back where it detached from the pocket wall. The size and quality is very good for the locality, and if you've been looking for a good quality Vivianite to add to your collection, look no further. These piece are incredibly difficult to find on the market today. Priced in our inventory at $2,750.
