Vivianite

Although there have been hundreds upon hundreds of mineral species found in Brazil, including a lot of phosphate species, Vivianite is not commonly found in anywhere in the country. The locality at Cabeca do Cachorro (in remote far northwestern Brazil) has produced some impressive specimens in very limited quantity over the years. Most people think of gem pegmatite minerals when it comes to Brazil, but these specimens are formed in phosphatic concretions / nodules, and are cracked open to reveal their gem crystal treasures. This piece is a lovely example of this elusive and beautiful material featuring a very sharp, lustrous, monoclinic prism of Vivianite. When backlit, the piece shows a gemmy deep green hue. Overall, the piece is in fine condition, and the only real damage is seen around the outer edge of where it was separated presumably from another Vivianite crystal. If you collect minerals of Brazil or phosphate species, this is one of the better examples of this material that we've ever had to offer in a while, and would make a nice addition to your collection.
