Item Description

The Tomokoni Mine (adit) is a distinctive Vivianite locality, which is actually part of the Canutillos complex. This locality has produced what are clearly some of the finest quality Vivianite specimens ever seen. The reason these crystals are so sharp and lustrous is because they didn't form in an orebody like most of the other Vivianites in Bolivia, which means there were no sulfides present, which have a tendency in Bolivia (especially in they're in a water course) to break down / decompose, and release their sulfur, which causes the Vivianite crystals to become dull and black. The Tomokoni pieces never had to experience this phenomenon, so they are notably sharp, well-formed, lustrous and gemmy. This is a wonderful miniature size piece featuring a beautiful, good quality, lustrous, dark green, sword shaped "textbook" crystal of Vivianite with minor metamorphosed Sandstone. With strong backlighting, a deep green (and slightly blue) color can be seen on the termination. The best of these crystals are some of the best quality Vivianites you will see from any locality in Bolivia, hands down. Keep in mind that over 75% of the specimens from this find have had SERIOUS damage problems. This piece is in great condition, very gemmy for the material.
