Item Description

This is one of the largest matrix examples of this material that we've had to offer from this locality. These beautiful Vivianites from the Tomokoni Mine (adit) which is part of the Canutillos complex started showing up in the early 2000s, and this locality produced what are clearly some of the finest quality Vivianite specimens ever seen from Bolivia. Most Bolivian Vivianites can be somewhat dull or rounded, but the pieces from Tomokoni are exceptionally sharp and lustrous. This is due to the fact that they didn't form in an orebody deposit, so there were no sulfides around the decompose and "dull" them up. This is a wonderful full cabinet sized piece featuring an absolutely beautiful, 6.7 cm, fine quality, highly lustrous, doubly-terminated, very sharp, sword shaped "textbook" crystal of Vivianite aesthetically sitting atop metamorphosed Sandstone. The color is a dark green hue on the surface, and with very strong backlighting, a little bit of internal gemminess can be seen revealing deep blue and green hues. Keep in mind that over 75% of the specimens from this find have had SERIOUS damage problems. This piece is in great condition by comparison, and it's so showy with the crystal sitting prominently at the top. A really fine example of these now notably hard to find Vivianites. The locality was completely mined out, and I'm told there is nothing else to be found anymore. Valued $3,000.
