Item Description

There are many phosphate species found in Brazil, but Vivianite is not found at most localities in the country. The remote Cabeca do Cachorro locality (in remote far northwestern Brazil) in recent years has produced some impressive specimens in very limited quantities. Most people think of gem pegmatite minerals when it comes to Brazil, but these specimens are formed in phosphatic concretions / nodules, and are cracked open to reveal their gem crystal treasures. This piece is a lovely example of this elusive and beautiful material featuring a very sharp, lustrous, monoclinic prism of Vivianite. When backlit, the piece shows a gemmy deep green hue. Overall, the piece is in good condition, and it has gentle etching patterns around the edges, creating a pleasing effect. If you collect minerals of Brazil or phosphate species, this is one of the better examples of this material that we've ever had to offer in a while, and would make a nice addition to your collection.
