Item Description

Here we have a rich miniature sized piece of Veszelyite, a rare copper zinc phosphate, named after Hungarian mineralogist, Ágost Veszely. This is a striking example of this limited and frankly very attractive material from the Palabanda Quarries in Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville). Going back to the early 2000s, there have been a few important discoveries of attractive blue Hemimorphite from a few localities in the renowned copper deposits in this country, but only recently (starting in 2020) we started seeing some excellent pieces of Hemimorphite that featured wonderful crystals of Veszelyite. Wee picked up a small but good quality parcel of this new and exciting material from what originally was said to be the M'Fouati Mine, but we're now aware that they came from the Palabanda Quarries. These specimens have excellent color and the vast majority are good sized display specimens. This piece features a rich coverage of lustrous Veszelyite crystals, on multiple sides of the underlying matrix. You can clearly see the Veszelyites with the naked eye (individual crystals measure to about 3 mm), but they are even better seen under magnification. A good quality example of these beautiful new specimens. Veszelyite used to be a notably rare species, but recently discoveries both here and in China have made the species much more accessible for collectors.
You might have seen the prices on certain contemporary Veszelyites on the market recently, so this is a great chance to pick up a fine quality example for a bargain price.
