Item Description

For a long time, the best Veszelyite crystals in the world were found at the Black Pine Mine in Montana, but the recent specimens from the Dongchuan District in Yunnan, China are giving the Black Pine pieces a run for their money in terms of crystallization and color. Veszelyite certainly has one of the most beautiful colors in the mineral world, with a deep intense blue shade that is rarely seen in other species. This very rare hydrated copper zinc phosphate mineral is only found in a few places on earth in fine crystallized examples. This specimen features beautiful, sharp, lustrous, intense blue colored, monoclinic bladed crystals of Veszelyite measuring up to 5 mm with associated secondary copper minerals on matrix. I can see some green Cuprodongchuanite along with lighter greenish-blue Dongchuanite, plus a small vug with pale bluish-grey colored Hemimorphite, but perhaps the most interesting aspect is that there is a spot on the bottom of the piece with some velvety patches of Azurite, a rare association for the locality. Very few of these are available, so if you're a fan of secondary ore minerals, rare species or material from China, don't let this one get away.
