Item Description

Here we have a wonderful, full cabinet-sized specimen of this gorgeous, limited and beautiful material from the Palabanda Quarries in Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville). Starting around the mid 2000s, there were a few important discoveries of attractive blue Hemimorphite from a few localities in the renowned copper deposits in the Bouenza and Pool Departments of Republic of the Cong, but only recently (starting in 2020) we started seeing some excellent pieces of Hemimorphite that featured world-class crystals of Veszelyite. We picked up a small, but superb quality parcel of this new and exciting material from what originally was said to be the M'Fouati Mine, but we're now aware that they came from the Palabanda Quarries. These specimens have excellent color and the vast majority are good sized display specimens. This piece features several crystals of the are copper zinc phosphate, Veszelyite sitting atop beautiful glowing sky blue colored, sparkling botryoidal Hemimorphite on matrix. You can clearly see the Veszelyites with the naked eye, but they are even better seen under magnification. The largest Veszelyite aggregate measures 9 mm across. A very attractive and good quality example of these beautiful new specimens. Veszelyite used to be a notably rare species, but recently discoveries both here and in China have made the species much more accessible for collectors.
You might have seen the prices on certain contemporary Veszelyites on the market recently, so this is a great chance to pick up a fine quality example for a great price.
