Vesuvianite with Calcite

Item Description

This highly contrasting piece of Vesuvianite and Calcite originates from Austria. The white Calcite plate has been etched to reveal the hundreds of bright lime-green Vesuvianite crystals in association. The display front shows one large patch of Vesuvianite that consists of 1 to 3 mm, gemmy to translucent, blocky to elongate crystals that are tightly grouped, vibrantly colored and contrast perfectly with the smooth surface of the snowy Calcite. There are three other smaller clusters of Vesuvianite crystals on the front, one that has a stubby, 4 mm crystal. The backside of the piece is dominated by a crust of granular, lighter lime green Vesuvianite. An attractive piece from a seldom seen locality. A rich specimen!
