Item Description
The piece came to Rich Kosnar from his mentor, noted New Jersey collector Frances Patricia "Pat" Gross, and her original mounting box accompanies the piece. Micro brown crystals of sharp, lustrous Beryllium-bearing Vesuvianite from the famous locality at Frank. A cool specimen of this classic material. Mindat.org says that this material was named in 1935 by Charles Palache and Lawson H. Bauer for a vesuvianite with high BeO substitution. (Although original analyses varied up to 9% BeO, modern verified chemical analyses could have yielded a new species, but modern chemical analysts have not found a similarly high BeO-rich sample as was analyzed historically.)
