Item Description
Excellent luster, sharp form, and good color highlight this representative example of Vesuvianite from the TYPE LOCALITY of Mount Somma in Italy. Although larger crystals occur elsewhere, this is from the first locality it was found, and named from. This cluster sits nicely within a protective pocket of white Sodalite (which bright, light-orange fluorescence), and the largest of the Vesuvianite crystals is about 7 mm across. The high luster and gemmy rind help create an inviting, root beer colored sparkle when lit up. From the impressive and expansive collection of Dr. Robert J. Lauf, this is a PUBLISHED and Type Locality specimen, both of which are of particular interest to collectors. Ex. Hugh Ford, Herb Obodda, and Bill Smith, with note card, book, and any old labels included. A copy of the book , signed by Dr. Lauf is included, and the piece is illustrated nicely within.
