Item Description
A classic and hard to find example of the elusive Vesuvianites from Olmstedville, New York. This specimen has a wonderful resinous luster with thick, blocky form and a dark reddish-brown color free of matrix. The piece shows a few well-defined faces (including a nice pinacoidal termination) with shining luster, but it's not complete all the way around, as are virtually all Vesuvianites from this area. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#898). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
