Vesuvianite (rare locality)

The famous Jeffrey Mine in Quebec, Canada is one of the great mineral localities in North America. This now closed open pit quarry produced some of the most iconic specimens of Vesuvianite ever seen. The color observed in Vesuvianite crystals from this locality ranges from green, yellow-green, emerald green, orange, purple, red, and various shades in between. The crystals are rarely gem quality, but there were a few pockets that produced crystals with clean areas worthy of faceting. This stone is one of the better examples of faceted Vesuvianite that we've had to offer from this locality. It has a pastel yellow color, with very slight inclusions and an "Oval Brilliant" cut. While Vesuvianite is considered a rare gemstone, this particular stone is even more desirable for collectors because of the prestigious locality. Please note, often in the gem world, you will see Vesuvianite labeled as "Idocrase" which is an archaic synonym that is no longer valid.
