Item Description

Purple is not a terribly common hue in the mineral world if you eliminate Amethyst and Fluorite. That's why I'm often drawn to purple colored minerals, as the chromophores for the material are typically due to elements like chromium or manganese. These manganese-bearing Vesuvianite crystals have a distinctive purple hue, that doesn't quite look like any other color in the mineral world This eye-catching miniature specimen features prismatic crystals of Vesuvianite with the classic purplish that transitions into a slight green hue (due to lack of manganese) measuring up to about 5 mm. They have great luster, sharpness and form, and you can see them on all sides of the piece. Pieces like this are becoming very scarce on the market, and truly should be appreciated for their uniqueness, due to the fact that the Jeffrey Quarry is now completely defunct and these amazing Vesuvianite specimens are no longer being found.
