Item Description

Italian Vesuvianites have long set the standard for the species as far as Europeans are concerned, and Bellecombe has produced many fine specimens. The prismatic crystals here average about 4 mm in size, and they are highly lustrous, with the faces varying from smooth and mirror-like to sharply striated. Vesuvianite got its name from Mt. Vesuvius in Italy, where it was first found, and this miniature well-represents this classic locality. From the large worldwide collection of historical minerals, of George Elling of New Jersey.
