Item Description

The prodigious Jeffrey Mine in Quebec is one of the most well-known Canadian localities. This large open pit locality for many years produced some of the world's finest and most colorful Vesuvianite crystals. The locality is now completely closed, and specimens are much harder to find on the market than they were a few years ago. This piece is a classic example of the famous bright green crystals seen from the locality, with the main 1.7 cm crystal playing host to several additional Vesuvianites below it, giving the piece character and style, so it's not just a single "stick". The luster is certainly above average for the material, and when strongly backlit, you can see a bit of internal translucency in the piece. If you flip the piece over, there are small areas of purple color, which is due to manganese content, but the piece is largely green in color. The piece is in good shape, as the main crystal is undamaged, and there are only a few small "rubs" in spots. Valued at $2,000.
