Item Description

The famous Jeffrey Mine produced some of the most iconic and colorful Vesuvianite crystals from any world locality. There were literally thousands of pieces of Vesuvianite that came out of this famous asbestos pit, and the colors range from purple to yellow to green but only a few pockets were found with this intense green color, like you see in this specimen, which is caused due to the presence of chromium, giving these pieces the nickname "Chrome-Vesuvianite". This piece is an eye-catching toenail that is filled with a coverage of sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy, strong green colored prismatic crystals of Vesuvianite on host rock matrix. It's a shame that these pieces have disappeared from the market now that the Jeffrey Mine is completely closed down, and if you missed out on these when they were coming out of the ground, don't pass this one up, as the color is about as good as it gets for the material, and the prices for good Jeffrey pieces is soaring based upon what we recently saw in Tucson this year.
