Item Description

A large, impressive cluster of three Vesuvianite crystals, two of which are doubly-terminated, from the well-known Lake Jaco area. The color is a deep honey, the largest crystal reaches 5 cm, and the often complex faces have very good luster. On one side of the cluster, the Vesuvianites are richly embedded with Grossular Garnets, yet another example of a fascinating, preferential effect. The lustrous dodecahedral Garnets are salt & pepper rather than the usual mauve to raspberry red, and they look like cut and polished granite with that coloration. When one thinks of Sierra de Cruces, Mexico, one usually thinks of the many colors of Grossular Garnet that have been found there. What many people don't know is that this location has also produced very fine crystals of Vesuvianite. This fine, small cabinet specimen comes with an old Hugh Ford label. ex George Elling Collection.
