Vesuvianite

Item Description

This is a fine and showy small cabinet sized specimen of "Alpine-type" Vesuvianite from Pakistan. These particular specimens are some of the more attractive and distinctive Vesuvianite crystals to come out of any "Alpine cleft" locality in the world. This specimens host many sharp, VERY lustrous, dark "root beer" colored, blocky prisms of Vesuvianite measuring up to 1.0 cm, sitting on matrix. The crystals feature wonderful striations on the prism faces. Accenting white rhombic crystals of Calcite make for a great touch. I would compare these Vesuvianites favorably to the fine old classics from Bellecombe in the Italian Alps, but I don't know if there's anything else quite like them from another world locality. Most of the crystals are in good shape, but there are some contacted areas where the piece was separated from the pocket wall. If you're a fan of Alpine or "Alpine-type" minerals, this is a noteworthy example that would make a nice addition to any collection. Valued $1,200.
