Item Description

These pieces for many years were labeled as coming form "Lake Jaco", but this was a misleading designation for these specimens. I'm told that there are no specimens found at Lake Jaco, but they are found within the Sierra de Cruces area. This small cabinet sized piece features a group of sharp, thick/blocky crystal of Vesuvianite measuring up to 4.3 cm long, free of matrix. There are some small almost silvery-grey colored Grossular Garnets that can be seen on the piece as well, but it's the Vesuvianites that draws the eye. The color of the crystals is a saturated golden-brown hue, with more of a yellow overtone on the terminations. The piece is not pristine, but largely crystallized all the way around. An interesting an unusual representative specimen of this old classic material from the late 1970s-1980s era of collecting.
