Item Description
From the old collection of Dennis Mullane, a former dealer and collector active in the 1960s-1970s: Huge, sharp, highly lustrous, translucent, mottled pinkish-brown, grossular garnet crystals from the well-known Sierra de Cruces locality in Mexico. The striking, large crystal is 7.7 cm and appears to be a trapezohedron with dodecahedral modifications. Other crystals appear to be simple dodecs. Complete all-around with only one point of attachment, which reveals the banded growth of the garnets. High quality, large and uncommonly colored grossular from this noted locale - and Nearly pristine, with only a bit of corner wear in a few spots. Old-time material, 1950s or 60s, from the Mullane Collection. These were rare and expensive at that time and this piece remains a significant specimen today. valued $750-1000
