Item Description

A visually impressive doublet of large almandine garnet dodecahedrons from this less well-known Ontario locale. The textbook lustrous dodecahedron crystals have rich carmine-red color with beautiful areas of cherry-red to orange-red translucence. The sharp stepped-growth faces and embedded green chlorite and black biotite plates add character and color. The sharp large top garnet is 10.5 cm, which is large for the locale. Almandines from this extinct garnet mine averaged 2.5 cm and reached up to 17.5 cm. Complete all-around and in great shape, with only minimal contacting. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired in 1985. SHOCKING WEIGHT at 2430 grams or 5.4 pounds mass. This is a fine large specimen from the locale. AMAZING in person!
