Item Description
Classic, highly desirable, lustrous, butterscotch-colored, "sandwich-style" blocky to tabular wulfenite crystals, to 1.2 cm, are beautifully scattered on the sculptural, coated, bladed, layered calcite matrix. This is a high quality example of this varietal from the famous Erupcion Mine at Los Lamentos. The two bruised smaller crystals certainly have only negligible impact to the overall excellent quality of this piece. The aesthetic upright small cabinet is mounted on a custom-made baked clay base. See the 2003 Mineralogical Record article in Mexico Special Issue III, Vol. 34, No. 6. Older material, wulfenite of this variety came out in the 1960s to 1980s. Ex Dr. Peter Megaw Collection, well-known Mexico author, collector and dealer. Valued at $5500 on one of his past labels for exchange/deaccession.
