Item Description
Here we have an exceptional gem crystal of Väyrynenite, a very rare manganese beryllium phosphate mineral that has only been found in just over a dozen localities around the world. This mineral was named in honor of the former professor of mineralogy at the Technical High School in Helsinki Finland, Heikki Allen Väyrynen. Historically, Väyrynenite occurs in opaque, darkly colored, often uncrystallized masses, but this piece is from the recent discoveries in Pakistan, which have produced the finest examples of the species extant, with not only brilliant richly colored crystals, but GEM quality material to boot! This piece is from the find in May of 2016 in Pakistan, which is acquired directly from a good source in Peshawar. At the time I was thrilled to get my hands on it, but it got lost in the shuffle, and I just re-discovered it in my inventory. The piece shows a vivid salmon orange-pink hue, but it's also lustrous, sharp and TRANSPARENT! The termination is not 100% complete, but with that said, the fact that we have a good crystallized example of a super rare phosphate with such amazing color and clarity is still a big deal. If you've ever wanted a piece of this material, do not miss out, as they haven't been found in years at this point.
