Item Description
Variscite is a well-known aluminum iron phosphate mineral, often seen in green (or variations of green) examples. The specimens from the Sapucaia Mine in Brazil are an iron-bearing variety known as Ferrian Variscite, and they have a distinctly vivid reddish-pink hue, which is notably different from almost any other Variscites you'll find. The only other places I can remember seeing this variety of Variscite are the Iron Monarch Mine in Australia and the Boa Vista Pegmatite in Brazil. This piece features gorgeous micro aggregates of translucent Ferrian Variscite on matrix. The piece is best seen with magnification, and we've photographed it with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macros lens to better illustrate the quality. These are rare on the market, and if you collect phosphates, rarities, Brazilian minerals, or micros, it's something that would make a great addition to your collection.
