Item Description

Here we have a beautiful specimen of Variscite, a well-known aluminum iron phosphate mineral. Typically Variscite is seen in green (or variations of green) examples, but the specimens from the Boa Vista Pegmatite in Brazil have a distinctly vivid reddish-pink hue, which is notably different from almost any other Variscites you'll find. It's possible that these pieces are an iron-bearing variety known as Ferrian Variscite. This piece is a lovely miniature sized specimen featuring attractive rich reddish-pink colored aggregates measuring to about 3 mm, sitting on cream colored Feldspar matrix. The piece was collected circa 2006. We have photographed the little aggregates under magnification to better show their color and quality. A nice example for any fan of phosphates or minerals of Brazil.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#150 BV), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
