Item Description

A very hard to find Vanadinite specimen from the Ruby Star Mine (the old label calls it the Ruby Red Mine) near Globe featuring dozens upon dozens of strong red colored, textbook hexagonal crystals measuring to about 2 mm, associated with a bit of Quartz on host rock matrix. Nearly all of the Vanadinites are pristine, and they look beautiful under magnification. If you're an Arizona mineral collector, these particular specimens are quite difficult to find on the market, so if you're a "completionist", this is something that would certainly fill a spot in your collection. This piece was collected in March of 1972, so well over 50 years ago, and it's honestly the first one I can remember having to offer in the auctions.
From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired, but among other things, he was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
