Item Description

These are some of the most distinctive and fine quality crystallized Vanadinites outside of Morocco. The specimens from the San Carlos Mine (Apex Mine) are certainly unique for their form and color. This piece features a pair of very well-formed, slightly hoppered / skeletal, sharp, lustrous, prismatic, hexagonal orangey-red colored crystals of Vanadinite associated with sharp, lustrous, GEM quality colorless rhombs of Calcite. No real damage that I can see, and this piece would make a great addition to a thumbnail suite, a collection of secondary ore minerals, or Mexican minerals. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece is mounted into a "Perky" box with a typed label from Wulff on the base.
