Item Description

A dense and sculptural cluster of sharp, glassy, lustrous, translucent, textbook hexagonal caramel-colored vanadinite crystals is richly draped with gemmy, glassy, starkly contrasting colorless calcite rhombs and nicely set on the sculptural large matrix wedge. The elongated vanadinites reach about 1.6 cm. The Pb-Zn-V-magnetite Apex Mine operated between the 1930s and 1952. Specimens of this combination quality came out in the 1960s and 70s. See the 2008 Mineralogical Record article in the Mexico V Special Issue, Vol. 39, No. 6. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum.
