Item Description

Sharp, lustrous, translucent, brownish-orange to orange-brown mimetite prisms are dramatically and aesthetically clustered atop the sculptural gossan matrix plate on this rich and excellent small cabinet from NEW 2019 finds at this less well-known older Ag-Pb mine. The textbook hexagonal crystals reach 1.5 cm and a couple of scattered glassy, lustrous calcite rhombs are a nice accessory. The San Carlos Mine was intermittently active from the late 1800s to 1952. Primary commercial mining was from the 1930s to 1952. See the Mineralogical Record article in 2008, Vol. 39, No. 6. A very fine example from the finds. Valued at $600-750.
