Item Description

Here we have a fairly hard to find specimen of Vanadinite from the Finch Mine (also known as the Barking Spider Mine) in Arizona. This locality is best-known for its attractive Wulfenite crystals which are coated by Quartz, and Vanadinites are few and far between. This piece hosts attractive skeletal/"hoppered", prismatic, hexagonal crystals of Vanadinite measuring up to 7 mm long, free of matrix. The surface of the crystals has a rusty hue due to oxidation, but the overall quality is very good, as the crystals are in fine shape. A really cool locality specimen from this mine that lies near the Gila County / Pinal County line about 10 miles east of Kearney.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011. There is also a label from mineralogist/collector David Garske, along with a label from IC Minerals.
