Vanadinite (September, 2001 pocket)

Item Description

Aesthetic and sculptural miniature cluster of vanadinite crystals from the September, 2001 (9/11) pocket at famed Mibladen. High luster, rich brick-red color and translucency highlight the artistic intergrown clusters of textbook, hexagonal, tabular to blocky prisms. The imposing large, blocky crystal on the back is 2.1 cm across. The backs of the crystals have an oxide coating typical of pieces from this find. Mibladen is easily the world's finest locality for the species. See the excellent 2013 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 44, No. 3. A fine example from this infamous month, and a unique style that came out at the time. While there are many pockets and many styles of vanadinite, this pocket always stuck out.
