Item Description
Vanadinite is something that is almost impossible to find in faceted gems. This well-known lead vanadate secies is rather soft (the hardness is around 2½) and it's brittle, so even a skilled cutter has to be extremely careful to try to keep a stone from falling apart in an attempt to facet it. In all the years we've been selling gems in the auctions, I can't remember ever having a single faceted Vanadinite to offer. This stone is a beautiful little "Freeform" cut gem with that classic red color, and when it's backlit, it shows fairly good translucency. If you collect rare gems, this is something that I bet most of you don't have in your collections, and it's the only one we have to offer, so don't miss out, as I highly doubt we'll have another one anytime soon. Even though it's a smaller stone, the density of the material is higher than most gems, so it weighs nearly half a carat.
