Item Description

An important and unusually large example of vanadinite from a USA locality! Reddish-orange, lustrous, elongated, vanadinite prisms are attractively set in two clusters on the large, sculptural, mounded matrix plate. The interestingly shaped, large, partially hoppered crystal in the lower cluster is 1.5 cm long. This excellent piece is from the late 1980s-early 1990s finds at the obscure, small, extinct, Pb-Au-Zn-Ag-Cu, Western Mine. These vanadinites compare favorable with those from the famous and much better known Old Yuma and Apache mines. See the 1997 Mineralogical Record in Vol. 28, No. 3. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. Few specimens ever found had attained this size. We assume he collected this himself, given his love of self collecting in the region. This is a significant USA example of the species.
