Item Description

Taouz Vanadinites are certainly some of the most distinctive examples of the species in the world. The contrast of the strong red crystals against the manganese / iron oxide matrix makes for eye-catching specimens. This piece hosts sharp, lustrous, tabular, hexagonal, orange-red colored crystals measuring up to 4 mm across sitting on stalactitic black "spires" of black manganese or iron oxide with associated Calcite. There are some spots of damage, but it's still a good representation of this classic material dating back 30 years or so. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9902). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
