Item Description

While Vanadinite is not necessarily rare from this mine, it's difficult to find showy display specimens with such beautiful color. This is a high quality and very attractive Vanadinite from this prestigious locality featuring a rich coverage of sharp, lustrous, well-formed, gemmy, stark red to orange colored hexagonal crystals measuring up to 5 mm, which are partially coated by "sugary" white Calcite on matrix. The crystals are beautiful under magnification, and we've taken some macro photos with a Canon MP-E 65 mm lens to better show off the quality. No major damage, only a tiny bit of roughness I can see with the naked eye, and the piece is so alluring with the stark contrast of the Calcite over the Vanadinites. The piece was from the dealer stock of Art Wright.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 41.7.2.3 AZ.13; 8893. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
