Item Description
The great chrome mine at Sarany has produced some of the most colorful and impressive "Alpine-type" Russian mineral specimens, including the finest This specimen features hundreds of Uvarovite crystals with high luster and intense emerald-green color on chromite matrix. Some associated grey "needles" of Shuiskite and minor Amesite can be seen on the piece as well. The species was named after Count Sergey Semeonovich Uvarov, the former president of the Academy of St Petersburg. These specimens have become increasingly difficult to obtain in recent years, and are certainly recognized as some of th finest in the world. I have photographed the crystals under the microscope to better illustrate their quality. From the John Arnaud collection, and accompanied by a label from another collection stating that it was purchased from IC Minerals. A worthwhile cabinet sized specimen of this classic material. Valued at $650.
