Item Description

Uvarovite is a chrome-bearing Garnet species that was named after Count Sergey Semeonovich Uvarov, the former president of the Academy of St Petersburg, Russia. Most people are familiar with the fine quality specimens from Saranovskoe, Russia and Outokumpu, Finland, but how often does one find Uvarovite from Oregon!? This piece features micro crystals of Uvarovite on black Chromite(?) matrix, and even though they're small, they are brilliant with excellent green color and sharp, lustrous faces. This is a locality piece to be sure, and you may never have another chance to pick one up, so don't miss out on this one, as it's the only piece we have to offer. The piece comes to us from an old East Coast collection, with a label from the legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the label has Ford's New York address it dates to 1946-1957. It's labeled as coming from Galice, but there is no locality specifically in the town, and it's from one of the half dozen claims in Josephine County that has produced the material. Don't miss out!
