Item Description
Scintillating, gemmy, emerald-green uvarovite garnet microcrystals really sparkle on the hefty chromite matrix on this rich and excellent piece from the Type Locality in Russia - the Saranovskii Mine in the Urals. Uvarovite is the uncommon calcium chromium garnet group endmember. Two generations of crystals are noted on this piece, with the larger ones reaching about 1 mm. Specimens of this quality haven't been available since the early 1990s, except for a few old lots resurfacing. The back has been sawed to enhance the display quality. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT SPECIMEN FROM REMAINING INVENTORY OF THIS MATERIAL, ALL PURCHASED FROM AN OLD COLLECTION.
