Item Description
Striking, colorful patches of scintillating, gemmy, emerald-green uvarovite garnet microcrystals really sparkle on the hefty chromite matrix on this rich and excellent piece from the Type Locality in Russia - the Saranovskii Mine in the Urals. Uvarovite is the uncommon calcium chromium garnet group endmember. Two generations of crystals are noted on this piece, with the larger ones reaching 2 mm. Specimens of this quality haven"t been available since the early 1990s, except for a few old lots resurfacing. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT SPECIMEN FROM REMAINING INVENTORY OF THIS MATERIAL, ALL PURCHASED FROM AN OLD COLLECTION.
