Beautiful, forest-green chrome-rich uvarovite garnets are a highly desirable European classic and are the world's finest from this famous locale. Rich clusters of crystals are nicely set in the massive smoky quartz matrix, a VERY RARE association. Sharp, bi-colored dodecahedrons, to 1.2 cm, are noted on both sides of the piece. Yes, most of the crystals are damaged/bruised, but there are enough sharp and pristine crystals to present a showy and highly representative example of the species and famous locale. The piece has a fine provenance, having been in the Dr. Fred Pough Collection, well-known American mineralogist, curator and author with a May, 1964 date on the label. From an East Coast collection.
