Item Description

A highly unusual and weird-looking large stibnite specimen from the famous San Martin Mine and the Dave Stoudt Mexico Collection. Intergrown blades of lustrous to matte-finish, purple to purple-gray stibnite blades are peppered with contrasting tan calcite rhombs. Much of the stibnite is coated with tiny, iridescent, golden jamesonite needles for additional color contrast. This is a strange-looking piece as the stibnite blades looked etched and both ends of the blades contacted the pocket walls. The piece is also fairly lightweight for the size at 424 grams. Very uncommon in this style from this ancient locale, where mining began in about 1555.
