Item Description

Lustrous parallel-growth hematite plates flank a cluster of glassy, transparent quartz crystals on this strikingly sculptural, exotic looking combination from an unknown Minas Gerais locale. The large quartz crystal is 4.8 cm and the hematites reach about 2.5 cm. The aesthetic vertical display view minimizes that some of the hematite plates on one side are bruised. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 8938 and purchased from well-known collector, dealer, curator, consultant, writer, historian, lecturer, show promoter, and special friend of the Mineralogical Record, Ron Bentley at Tucson in 1980. See Ron's biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive at: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?page=2&colid=144. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Very fine and rare style Brazilian hematite and quartz.
