Item Description
RARE calcite style and RARE locality on this sculptural large old-time specimen from the obscure Waco Field, northwest of the famous Joplin Field of the Tri-State District of Jasper County, Missouri. All of the many nailhead spar lustrous, translucent, amber crystals have striking glassy, translucent sharp terminations above the fascinating layered, frosted, nubby stepped-growth prism faces. The impressive large dominating calcite is 5.2 x 3.7 x 3.5 cm. The crystals rest on typical matrix of brecciated chert and altered limestone. The calcites have a beautiful warm GLOW, when backlit. Ex Lee Burnett Collection of Morrison, Colorado. There are NO photographic examples in the MINDAT locality index. A rare, perhaps UNIQUE old-time calcite from an obscure area of the historic Tri-State District of Missouri. A MUST for the calcite or locality collector.
