Item Description
A dramatic and most unusual large calcite and quartz specimen from the famous Idarado Mine. The impressive plate of sharply terminated milky quartz crystals has two additional generations of quartz and two generations of calcite! We believe the sequence is: 1) preferential coating of iron oxide-tinted drusy quartz; 2) deposition of calcite scalenohedrons all later coated with manganese oxides; 3) deposition of smaller calcite rhombs; and finally 4) hollow drusy quartz epimorphs after the dissolved calcite rhombs. Facinating chemistry here! The back is also completely crystallized/contacted. The attachment is on one end. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and according to his label, from the Barbara Muntyan Collection, a prominent Colorado specialist.
